What is the fondest memory from your playing career at DeSales?
Probably the run to the state championship my junior year, starting with beating Ironton down in Ironton to make the playoffs, running through the playoffs, beating Clyde in the state semis and the state championship experience. In addition to that, to this day, my buddies still look back at those camp days, two a days that felt like 4 a days, and reminisce about those times and the lessons we learned.
What made playing for DeSales so special?
The culture and brotherhood that was instilled in us. All started with the tradition laid down from the teams before us. It was all about continuing the tradition of excellence while creating a legacy of our own.
What was your best game?
Had to be the first game of my senior year, Toledo St Francis Desales. I averaged 43 yards per punt with 3 downed inside the 10. I had 3 extra points and the game winning 48 yard field goal with a minute left.
What was it like playing for Coach Jacoby?
Coach Jacoby was old school football and a legend to play for. With him, you heard the stories of the past but got to live them in real time. You don’t realize in the moment how many life lessons you will take with you. The value of hard work, discipline, toughness and trusting in your teammates. He was tough on you but only because he was trying to bring out the best in you and the team.
Do you still follow the Stallions and if so, how closely?
Yes. Usually I can make it to a few games a year and keep up with the other games on the website broadcast.
