Josh helped lead the Stallions to the 2014 CCL Championship and a Regional Final after rushing for 1,130 yards and 23 scores, while passing for 658 yards and seven touchdowns. After DeSales, Josh played collegiately at John Carroll, where he appeared in 32 games for the Blue Streaks.
This Date in SFD Football History - 10/15/76
Greg Diehl rushed for 100 yards and scored three touchdowns to help lead the DeSales to a 28-6 win over Wehrle and improve to 5-1 overall. Their one loss, through six games in '76, was to Columbus St. Charles and it would be 13,540 days before the next DeSales loss to the Cardinals. The 9th edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2021 is Adam Griffin ‘10!
Griffin was a two-way player who earned Third Team All-Ohio honors on a State Runner-up Team as a senior, after rushing for 940 yards 16 touchdowns. He totaled 1,736 all-purpose yards and on defense, he tallied 47 tackles with two interceptions.

Senior Quarterback Whit Hobgood tossed two 4th quarter touchdowns to help rally the Stallions past Bishop Watterson 21-17. With Stallions trailing 17-7 and 5:27 remaining in the game, Hobgood found sophomore Jack Elgin for a 24-yard touchdown pass. Whit, who threw for a career high 286 yards passing and three touchdowns, connected with Rechee Smith and he raced 50 yards for the go-ahead score with 27 seconds remaining.

The 8th Edition of the "Where Are They Now?" Series here in 2021, presented by Ben Aucoin, State Farm Agent, is David Hackney '83! Hackney was an End on the 1982 Central Catholic League Championship Team that went 5-0 in league play. As the younger brother of former Stallion John '82 "Big Hack" Hackney, David was known as "Little Hack." However, these days, David is now known as Representative David Hackney! David was elected in 2020 to represent the 11th Legislative District in the Washington House of Representatives and currently serves on the Capital Budget (vice chair), Public Safety, and Transportation Committees.

DeSales forced five turnovers, including an interception returned for a touchdown by Max Shulaw in a 36-21 victory at Steubenville. Gabe Caruso and Avery Garlock each had two rushing touchdowns for DeSales, who scored 19 points in the fourth quarter to secure the victory and improve 3-4 overall. Garlock led the way for the Stallions, with 134 yards rushing, highlighted by a 66-yard touchdown run that gave the Purple and White the lead for good.
This Date in SFD Football History - 10/1/94
DeSales needed an 11-play, 82-yard scoring drive to rally and beat Zanesville on the road, 15-12, in their closest game of the regular season. Gary Berry's one-yard rushing touchdown with 5:12 remaining was the difference. The 15 points were the lowest offensive output of the season as the 1994 team would go onto setting a school record for most points scored in a regular season.

The 7th edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2021 is Chris Roy ‘88!
The Stallions were a combined 33-2 during his three years as a starter. In his senior season, Roy was recognized as First Team All-Ohio on both sides of the ball on an Ohio Catholic League Championship Team. After SFD, he went on to play collegiately at The Ohio State University.
These days, Chris resides in Dallas and is a partner at a private equity firm.

This Date in SFD Football History - 9/24/71 - The Stallions picked up their first win of the 1971 season with a 38-0 blanking of Central High School. Five different Stallions scored for the eventual CCL Co-Champions. Tom Lentz recorded two rushing touchdowns as the Stallions bounced-back after two losses to start the season. Ralph Stapelton returned a fumble 9 yards for a defensive score. Marc Tyler and Mitch Rossi had the other touchdowns for DeSales, who improved to 1-2 overall.

The 6th edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2021 is Ronnie Smith ‘04!
Smith was a First Team All-Ohio defensive back for the Stallions in 2003 on a Regional Semifinalist team. He was a four-year letter-winner for DeSales and he concluded his collegiate career at Capital University, where he was a two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer.
These days, Ronnie is Firefighter/Paramedic with the Columbus Division of Fire.

This Date in SFD Football History - 9/10/65

Coming off the program’s first Central Catholic League championship, led by a stout and opportunistic defense, the Stallions opened up the season with a 22-0 blanking of Linden-McKinley.
After a scoreless first quarter, quarterback Mike DeAscentis crossed the goal line from four yards out with one second remaining in the half, followed by Mike Metzger’s run on a two-point conversion, that gave the Stallions an 8-0 lead heading into the locker room. The score was set up by a blocked punt by linebacker Wayne Hiles that gave the Purple and White the ball deep in Panther territory.
The Stallions would add to their lead in the third quarter, thanks to a rushing touchdown by Tom Rock and a passing score from DeAscentis to Jack Diedalis, who also recovered a fumble for DeSales that led to a score.
The Stallion defense, which allowed just 48 points in eight games in 1964, had two goal line stands to preserve the shut out.
This Date in SFD Football History - 9/3/2004
Junior quarterback Matt Mangini threw for a touchdown and 154 yards and added a rushing touchdown as DeSales beat Toledo St. John's 21-10. The Stallions took a 13-2 lead into the locker room after Mangini crossed the goal line on the 14th play of a drive, followed by a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown by junior Chris Thomas. Pictured below are the seniors from the 2004 team, who finished as Regional Runner-ups.

The 3rd edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2021 is Sayyid Kanu ‘14!
Kanu was a two-time All-Ohio defensive back for the Stallions and went onto play at Morehead State University. He started 27 games for the Eagles and was on Homecoming Court his senior year.
