10/30/10 - Ten years ago today, the Stallions beat Cleveland Benedictine on the final day of the regular season 35-24 to qualify for their 17th consecutive playoff appearance. DeSales rushed for 282 yards against the Bengals, led by Nick Gentile's 69 yards and three touchdowns. Warren Ball also crossed the goal line twice as the Stallions improved to 5-5 overall. The night before, Gahanna Lincoln - a team DeSales beat in week 1 - upset Groveport Madison to set up a win-and-in scenario the following evening for the Stallions in Cleveland.

DIII Regional Semifinal: DeSales 56, Granville 35, Final

The Stallions erupted for a 36 point third quarter en route to a 56-35 Regional Quarterfinal win over Granville, in a game that was resumed a day after it started. Granville had a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter when the game was delayed and eventually postponed until the follow day.

On the first play on Saturday, Quintell Quinn raced 42 yards for a touchdown -part of a 181 yard and four touchdown performance for the future Ohio Bobcat.

The Stallions took a 20-15 lead into halftime and on the opening possession of the second half, Granville returned the kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown. On the ensuing kick, Granville recovered it and on the next play from scrimmage, Matthew Stewart picked up a Thompson forced fumble and returned it 55 yards for a score. Jonathan Thompson would record his second interception of the game and took it in for another defensive touchdown on Granville’s next possession.

Nathan Barber caught a 30-yard pass from Whit Hobgood for his first career touchdown. Thompson also had a rushing touchdown for the Stallions, who advance to play Jonathan Alder in a Regional Semifinal.

With the win DeSales improved to 16-2 all-time in Regional Quarterfinals.

Today we go back to October 23, 1982. DeSales beat Columbus St. Charles 22-0 as the The Stallion Defense held the Cardinals to 106 total yards, including 1-of-12 passing for 6 yards. Paul Dobner had two three-yard touchdown runs for DeSales, who jumped out to a 15-0 first quarter lead. Bill Schwartz added a touchdown pass and kicked two PATs. It was the fifth shutout over St. Charles, in the last six games for DeSales.

The Stallions would go on to win the 1982 CCL Championship, their sixth in school history.

DeSales captured the 2020 Central Catholic Championship by defeating Bishop Hartley 16-14 on the road and improved to 5-1 overall, 4-1 in league play. The Stallions piled up 291 rushing yards, compared to 141 yards for Bishop Hartley. It’s the lowest rushing total for the Hawks against DeSales, since the two teams renewed the series, beginning with a non-league game in 2014.

Quintell Quinn led the way with 131 rushing yards, while Jonathan Thompson ran for a career-high 118 yards as DeSales beat the Hawks for the second time this season and won their 25th league title all time.

JJ Baughman made three field goals, including a career-high 44 yarder. Quinn crossed the goal line for the 10th time in 2020.

The Stallions improved to 4-0 by beating Westerville North 13-12. Bob Cua's extra point ended up being the difference after the Warriors were stopped on a two-point conversion with two minutes remaining. Junior running back Greg Diehl scored both of the Stallion touchdowns. Diehl would go on to earn first team All-CCL honors in 1976, along with Bob Burrell, Gary Cummings, and Dominic Tiberi.

DeSales earns the Number One Seed in Region 11

DeSales (4-1) will be the number one seed in the upcoming Division III, Region 11 playoffs. As a result, the Stallions receive a first round bye and will host the winner of Marietta and Wilmington on Friday, October 16 at 7PM in Alumni Stadium. The higher seeds in all Region 11 playoff games will serve as they host school, up until the Regional Final.

DeSales will be making their 27th OHSAA State Playoff Appearance and all-time, the Stallions are 55-23 (.705%) in the postseason.

The Stallions had a season high 382 yards rushing, led by Quintell Quinn's 106 yards and four touchdowns. Jonathan Thompson had 94 yards and a score. Nasir Phillips rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown. Gabe Caruso crossed the goal line for his first career touchdown as the Stallions scored 48 unanswered.

The Cardinals scored on the game’s first play, on an interception returned for score, but DeSales scored the next 48 to improve to 4-1 overall, 3-1 in CCL play.

This Date in SFD Football History - 9/25/64 - The Stallions exploded for 54 points against Jonathan Alder in a 54-8 victory. DeSales piled up 331 yards of offense to improve to 3-0 in their third varsity season in program history. Tom Rock had three rushing touchdowns (51, 3, 3) and senior quarterback Ken Schneider threw two touchdown passes, including a 59-yarder to Mike Metzger, and also added a rushing touchdown for the Stallions. The 54 points still ranks among a top-10 scoring output in this the 59th season of football. Mike DeAcentis and Dave Kauder also added touchdowns for the eventual 1964 CCL Champions.

This date in SFD Football History - 50 year ago today, September 18, 1970, the Stallions blanked the North Polar Bears 38-0, thanks to 30 second half points! Jack Metzger scored twice as DeSales piled up 340 yards of offense. Joe Gordon, Mitch Rossi, and Tony O'Brien each had rushing touchdowns for the Purple and White, who evened up their record at 1-1.

The Stallions piled up 298 rushing yards, led by Jonathan Thompson's two touchdowns and 86 yards in a come-from-behind win against Bishop Hartley. Quarterback Nicky Pentello and running back Quintell Quinn each topped 100-yards rushing for the second straight game as the Purple and White improved to 3-0 overall, 2-0 in CCL play. DeSales rallied in the second half for the third straight week, after trailing 21-17, before Jonathan Thompson gave the Stallions the lead for good after a 55-yard touchdown run. Thompson also recorded an interception and had two tackles for a loss.

Jordan Johnson had a 32-yard touchdown reception from Nicky Pentello, his first career touchdown pass, to tie the game at 7-7. JJ Baughman kicked his first career field goal in the first half.

This Date in SFD Football History - 9/4/81 - DeSales 14, Beechcoft 0. With the game scoreless through three quarters, Tim O'Brien (1 yard) and Greg Williams (31 yards) each had fourth quarter rushing touchdowns to help the Stallions improve to 2-0 to begin the '81 season. It was the sixth shutout in nine games for Coach Tony Pustaeri and Coach Guido Ricevuto's defense. The Purple and White held the Cougars 75 yards rushing on 33 attempts, while Williams led DeSales with 136 yards on the ground.

The defending Division-III State Champions opened up their season with a 22-8 win against Toledo St. John’s at the University of Toledo’s Rubber Bowl. Senior running back David Cook rushed for 155 yards and had two touchdowns as DeSales avenged its only loss from the 1997 season.  Aaron Powell, in his first start as the Stallions’ quarterback, connected with Roy Williams for a 59-yard touchdown to start the scoring for the Purple and White in the first quarter.

Quintell Quinn had three rushing touchdowns, including a four-yard run in overtime to help lead the Stallions (1-0, 1-0) to their seventh win over the Eagles (0-1, 0-1) in eight games.

After an interception return for an Eagle touchdown, Quinn also blocked an extra point to keep the game within one score at 22-14.

The game was delayed due to thunder for 30 minutes and when play resumed, Quinn scored on the very first play to make it 22-20. Sophomore quarterback Nicky Pentello tied the game at 22 when he connected with Nathan Barber on the two-point conversion.

Jordan Johnson had an 85-yard touchdown reception from Whit Hobgood in the first half, but DeSales trailed 16-7 at the break.

After the second half, the Stallion defense held the Eagles to less than 100 yards of offense as Coach Wiggins improved to 13-4 against Watterson.

August 28, 2009 - DeSales was set to open their season against Gahanna-Lincoln, but the weather did not cooperate. The game was moved to the following day and the Stallions and the Lions played at 10AM. DeSales blanked Gahanna 38-0, thanks to Warren Ball, Robert Perrine, and Nick Gentile (#14), who each had touchdowns and combined for nearly 200 yards rushing on 18 attempts.

DeSales is 0-1 all-time on games played on August 28.
