The defending Division-III State Champions opened up their season with a 22-8 win against Toledo St. John’s at the University of Toledo’s Rubber Bowl. Senior running back David Cook rushed for 155 yards and had two touchdowns as DeSales avenged its only loss from the 1997 season. Aaron Powell, in his first start as the Stallions’ quarterback, connected with Roy Williams for a 59-yard touchdown to start the scoring for the Purple and White in the first quarter.
