SFD Alumni in Bowl Games

Several SFD Football alums are participating in College Football Bowl Games, starting yesterday (12/26) with Pittsburgh Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach, Austin Addington-Strapp ‘04, in the Quick Lane Bowl and continuing today when Michigan State Defensive Backs Coach Paul Haynes ‘87 and the Spartans take on Wake Forest in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. DeSales senior Jaylen Ball commits to the University of Akron

Congratulations to SFD senior Jaylen Ball on his verbal commitment to play football at the University of Akron! An injury in week 8 against St. Charles cut his season short, but the two-way player was second on the team with 307 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. On defense, Ball recorded 52 tackles with 6.5 for a loss.

Jaylen’s older brother, Warren ‘12 was a captain for the University of Akron’s Football team in 2017 and was an Academic All-Mid American Conference selection as a senior.

SFD senior offensive lineman Cole Potts and junior running back Quintell Quinn on being named Division-II First Team All-Ohio! Potts helped pave the way for Quinn, who finished with 1,808 rushing yards - the second most in a single season in DeSales history! Potts, who finished 4th in the heavyweight division at the 2018 OHSAA State Wrestling Meet, is the first Stallion offensive lineman to be named to the First Team since Alex Vance in 2009. Quinn is the first SFD junior to earn First Team honors since Alex Stewart in 2004. He’s also the first skill position player in DeSales history to be named First Team All-Ohio as an 11th grader.

Owen Faulkner (defensive back) was named Special Mention All-Ohio.

Congratulations to SFD senior Owen Faulkner on his verbal commitment to play football at the University of Akron! As a senior, Owen set a DeSales single season record with 40 receptions! On defense, he finished third on the team with 93 tackles. Owen was also tied for second on the team with three interceptions and scored three touchdowns for the Regional Semifinalists. Faulkner's 40 catches broke Kevin Hazel's reception mark of 39, which was set in 1999.

A three-year letter-winner, Owen has been named First Team All-CCL two times and as a senior, he was recognized First Team All-Central District.

Three Stallions earn First Team All-Central District

Senior defensive back Owen Faulkner, senior offensive lineman Cole Potts, and junior running back Quintell Quinn were named Division-II First Team All-Central District.

Reno Godfrey (QB), Frank Sciarroni (OL), and Jordan Johnson (DB) were recognized as Second Team All-District.

Senior linebacker Mason Washington was named Special Mention), while Billy Cain (OL) and Jason Velazquez (LB) were named Honorable Mention.

Quintell Quinn with a career-high 278 yards rushing and three touchdowns in a Regional Quarterfinal win for the Stallions, who improved to 9-2 with the win. DeSales advances to the DII Region 8 Semifinal and will play Harrison next Friday night at a location TBD. Quinn moved into second place all-time for most rushing yards in a single season as the junior from St. James the Less now has 1,712 yards. He passed David Cook, Josh Kusan, and Matt Stewart tonight.

Jordan Johnson and Owen Faulkner each recorded interceptions for the Stallion defense that held the Spartans (10-1) to their lowest point total of the season.

CCL Champions! The JV and Freshmen Football teams sweep Hartley to capture titles.

2019 Junior Varsity Central Catholic League Champions

The Stallion Junior Varsity and Freshmen Football teams captured Central Catholic League championships today (10/26) with wins over Bishop Hartley.

The JV team won 42-12 to capture their second straight CCL title. Jackson Gantz and Mickey Solazzo each had two touchdowns to lead the Stallions, who outscored Bishop Watterson, Columbus St. Charles, and Hartley by a combined score of 64-12 with two shutouts.

The Freshmen Football team rallied from down 18-6 en route to a 35-24 victory over the Hawks, thanks to 350-plus rushing yards and five touchdowns by quarterback Nicky Pentello.

In the first regular season meeting with Steubenville since 1967, the Stallions beat the Big Red 31-18 for their seventh straight win to improve to 8-1 overall.

Junior running back Quintell Quinn recorded his second straight 200-yard rushing game, finishing with 230 yards on 30 carries with two touchdowns.

Reno Godfrey was 9-of-14 passing for 116 yards with two touchdowns, including a 20-yarder to Owen Faulkner with 57 seconds remaining on fourth down to secure the victory.

Junior running back Quintell Quinn rushed for a career-high 246 yards and two touchdowns as the Stallions won their sixth straight to improve to 7-1, 2-0 in Central Catholic League play. Quinn became the 27th Stallion to reach the 1,000 yard plateau.

DeSales improved to 44-4 all-time against St. Charles, despite turning the ball over four times.

The Stallions built a 14-0 first quarter lead after Owen Faulkner’s 19-yard rushing touchdown, but the Cardinals tied the game at 14-14 in the fourth.

Quinn took over late in the second half, rushing for 200 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown.

Reno Godfrey’s nine-yard touchdown run with 2:21 remaining put the game out of reach.

Quintell Quinn and Jaylen Ball each rushed for over 100 yards in a 28-7 win over Belmont at Welcome Stadium on Friday. Quinn led the Stallions with 155 yards and Ball had a career-high 107 yards, along with two touchdowns.

Reno Godfrey tied the game at 7-7 on a one-yard touchdown run after Belmont scored on the game’s first play from scrimmage. The Stallions outscored the Bison 21-0 after halftime.

Warren is a former All-Ohio running back for DeSales and won a National Championship at Ohio State University before concluding his playing career at the University of Akron, where he earned Academic All-MAC honors and served as Team Captain. These days, Warren is Scouting Assistant for the undefeated San Francisco 49ers!

D’Orazio, a former All-Ohio quarterback who went onto become Otterbein’s all-time leading passer and later led two Arena Football Teams to AFL Championships!

DeSales scored the final 14 points of the game after trailing by ten in the third quarter and rallied to beat Watterson 20-16. The Stallions out-rushed the Eagles 267-52 and were led by Quintell Quinn’s career-high 161 yards. Jaylen Ball scored the go-ahead touchdown and finished with 76 yards rushing. Ball also recorded a career-high 9 tackles on a defense that intercepted three Watterson passes and all of them occurred in the second half.

Jordan Johnson caught an 18-yard pass from Reno Godfrey for a score and also had an interception.

Ryan Wiggins improved to 12-4 all-time against Watterson.

DeSales 42, Bishop Fenwick 22

A 28-point first quarter fueled at 42-22 win for DeSales in their first-ever meeting with Bishop Fenwick. Senior quarterback Reno Godfrey threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another as the Stallion improved to 4-1 overall.

The Stallion Defense forced four turnovers, including a 22-yard fumble recovery returned for a score by Jaylen Ball. Mason Washington set up the game’s first score with his second interception of the season. Sophomore linebacker Jonathan Thompson forced a fumble and recorded his first career interception for DeSales, who held the Falcons to 49 yards in the first half. Corey Moriarty also had his first pick as a Stallion.

Jordan Johnson (49), Owen Faulkner (8) and Kole Perrine (65) each had receiving touchdowns. Perrine scored for third time from 60 yards out or more.

The 5th edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2019 is Justin Moore‘06!

A three-year letter-winner for the Stallions, who led the team in receiving as a junior and a senior. The 2011 First Team All-District player went onto to play at Kent State University, where he appeared in 33 career games for the Golden Flashes.

DeSales 35, Archbishop Alter 31

In the first meeting since 2005, DeSales out-slugged Kettering Alter 35-31 in a lightning delayed week four matchup between two programs who have combined for 49 playoff appearances, 98 playoff victories, and 22 Regional Championships.

Quintell Quinn had a career-high 147 yards rushing and two touchdowns, including a 90-yard kickoff return for a score.

Alter (3-1), the 2018 Division-III State Runner-up, took a 31-28 lead with 3:33 remaining in the game, thanks to a 42-yard field goal. Senior running back Jaylen Ball scored the go-ahead touchdown, his second of the game, with 54 seconds remaining, as the Stallions improved to 3-1 overall.

Reno Godfrey, who connected with Jordan Johnson and Owen Faulkner on the game-winning drive, scored his first rushing touchdown of the season early in the first quarter.

With the win, the Stallions improved to 11-2 all-time against Kettering Alter.
