The 2018 Night of Tradition is this Saturday, July 28
We are pleased to announce that this year’s Night of Tradition on July 28th will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of our 1998 Division III State Championship Team.
Tickets are $35 per person ($20 for 1998 players, $10 for current players). Admission price includes dinner and drinks.
The evening is open to anyone who has been a part of the football tradition: coaches, players, cheerleaders, parents, and fans!
Proceeds from the event will be used to refurbish and purchase equipment for the football program.

James Prater '15 named preseason All-American for Ashland University
Former Stallion linebacker James Prater '15 was recognized by Street & Smith as a preseason Division-II All-American for Ashland University.
Last season, Prater set an Ashland-record with 23.5 tackles for loss, resulting in 104 yards in losses; recorded 63 tackles (42 solos), 10 sacks, an interception, eight pass breakups, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.
Entering his senior campaign, Prater has 31 career tackles for loss, fourth-most in Ashland history.

Tickets for the Varsity Football team's season opener are now available online! The Stallions open 2018 against Dayton Dunbar on Saturday, August 25 at 6PM at Huber Heights Wayne High School as part of the Backyard Blitz. The Stallions lead the all-time series against the Wolverines 4-2.

SFD senior Joey Velazquez verbally commits to the University of Michigan
St. Francis DeSales rising senior Joey Velazquez verbally committed to play baseball and football for the University of Michigan on June 22, 2018.
Last season on the gridiron, Velazquez tallied 53 tackles on defense, and on offense, was second on the team in touchdowns (8), all-purpose yards (643), rushing yards (356). As a junior for the Stallion Baseball team, Joey set a school record with a .545 batting average and was named the Ohio Division-II Player of the Year.

Come spend a week with the coaching staff and players of St. Francis DeSales. Campers will be instructed on basic fundamentals of offense, defense, and special teams by position. "Heads up tackling" and other safety techniques will be emphasized. They will also participate in games, competitions, as well as a Stallion Football league. Attendees will receive a SFD Football highlight video, a t-shirt, and a Rib Dinner! Come join the finest football camp experience in Central Ohio.

Congratulations to Cullen Krombach (University of Dayton) and Cole Silvestri (Furman University)!
As a three-year letter-winner, Krombach played on both offensive and defensive lines during his career at DeSales. As a senior, he was recognized as Special Mention All-District, making 10 starts on the offensive line and five starts on defensive line. On defense, Krombach recorded 19 tackles and three sacks.
Silvestri finished his career with 1,922 passing yards and 19 touchdowns. As a junior, he helped lead the Stallions to a Regional Championship and a 13-1 record in 2016. That season, DeSales set aschool-record for most points scored in a single season with 588 (42.0 per game). Silvestri also accounted for 512 career rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.

Good luck to SFD Alumnus Patrick Omameh '08 in today's AFC Championship Game!
St. Francis DeSales High School will be represented today (1/21) in the AFC Championship game as 2008 alumnus Patrick Omameh is the starting left guard for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Omameh is set to become the first Stallion to participate in an NFL Conference Championship Game when the Jaguars play the New England Patriots on CBS at 3:05 PM. Go Jaguars!
SFD senior Brian Asamoah to represent Team USA in U-19 International Bowl IX
University of Oklahoma signee Brian Asamoah will compete for Team USA in the U-19 International Bowl IX at AT&T Stadium in Dallas tonight (1/19) at 9PM EST against Canada.
The International Bowl features a series of twelve games showcasing top players from the United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico and the Nordic nations.
Asamoah, a 6-2, 200 pound linebacker, is one of five Ohioans on Team USA's roster.
The game can be seen live on ESPN3.
James Prater '15 named Second Team All-American for Ashland University
After an outstanding junior campaign at Ashland University, former Stallion Football player James Prater was recognized by D2Football.com as a Second Team All-American. The 2015 alumnus registered a school-record 23.5 tackles for loss and led the Eagles with 42 solo tackles and 10 sacks. In addition to being a First Team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, Prater was a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top Defensive End in Division-II, Division-III and NAIA.

Varsity Football Team named Academic All-Ohio
The 2017 St. Francis DeSales Varsity Football team was named Academic All-Ohio by the Ohio Football Coaches Association for the third consecutive season.
Senior defensive end / tight end Will Mnich was recognized individually as Academic All-Ohio
Tucker Yinger '14 Named First Team Academic All-American
Stallion Football alum Tucker Yinger '14 was named a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American for the University of Dayton. The senior running back is a Mechanical Engineering major and carries a 3.82 GPA.
This season for the Flyers, Yinger rushed for over 1,000 yards and was named First Team All-Pioneer Football League. The former Stallion finished his career with 2,417 rushing yards, which ranks sixth all-time in UD history.

Senior Linebacker Ty Van Fossen named First Team All-Ohio; Derrow and Sciarroni are Second Team
Earlier today, linebacker Ty Van Fossen was named Division-III First Team All-Ohio by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association. Van Fossen, a senior from St. Matthew, had a team-high 90 tackles and a team-leading 16 tackles for a loss. It was the second straight season that the University of Cincinnati commit led the Purple and White in tackles. As a junior, the 6-foot-2, 215 pounder, recorded 92 stops on a Regional Championship team.
Van Fossen becomes the 57th Stallion to earn First Team All-Ohio and the program's first linebacker since Josh Kusan in 2008.

Defensive lineman Brandon Derrow and defensive back Anthony Sciarroni were named Second Team All-Ohio. Derrow, a senior from St. Paul, finished the season with 38 tackles. Sciarroni, a junior safety from St. Matthew, tallied 41 tackles and led the Stallions with four interceptions.

SFD Football Alums Earn Academic Honors
Four former Stallion Football players recently earned academic honors for the 2017 Fall Quarter. Warren Ball '12 (University of Akron) and Tucker Yinger '14 (University of Dayton) were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 team. Sayyid Kanu '14 (Morehead State, Pioneer Football League) and Luke Melsop '15 (John Carroll University, Ohio Athletic Conference) were recognized Academic All-League by their respective conferences.
Ball, a redshirt graduate senior, earned a bachelor's degree in sports industry from Ohio State before transferring to Akron in 2016. He is pursuing a Master's Degree in Sport Administration and sports a 3.56 GPA.
Yinger was a 2016 Second Team Academic All-American and is an academic all-district selection for the third consecutive year. He's currently studying Mechanical Engineering and has a 3.71 GPA.
Sophomore Defensive End Luke Melsop was one of five John Carroll football players to be named Academic All-OAC earning a 3.55 GPA in Exercise Science.
Kanu, a redshirt junior Safety, Ohio, earned a 3.58 GPA in business for Morehead State to earn Academic All-Pioneer Football League.

The 10th and final edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2017 is Jack Elgin '88!
Jack was the starting quarterback on the back-to-back league championship teams in 1986 and 1987 and his senior class never lost to Watterson! These days, Jack, his wife Mandy and their three boys reside in Galena, Ohio, where the former Stallion is a Co-founder and Managing Partner of Longbridge Wealth Advisors, an independent financial advisory firm.

Mike Metzger - "Where Are They Now?"
The 9th edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2017 is Mike Metzger '66!
Mike was an all-league selection on the 1964 CCL Championship Football team - the program's first undefeated team! Mike went on to play collegiately in Toledo and is now resides in Reynoldsburg and is the grandfather to 17 grandchildren!

Last Saturday (10/7), the junior placekicker accounted for nine points on 6-of-6 extra points along with a 37-yard field goal in a 59-17 win at Hiram. For the season, the 5-foot-8, 180 pounder has converted 22 PATs and is 5-for-6 kicking field goals for the 5-0 Tigers. The former Stallion leads the team with 37 points and is first in the NCAC for field goals made.

After a great career at the University of Louisville as a starting center, Dan played professionally in the Arena Football League and had a brief stint with the Buffalo Bills.

Last Friday (9/29), the true freshman cornerback made his first career start for the Quakers and finished with 6 tackles in a 16-13 loss to Darmouth. It was the first loss of the season for Penn, who dropped to 2-1, 1-0 in Ivy League play, and the third game played for the former Stallion. Noble, a 5-foot-10, 190 pounder has registered 10 tackles for the season and blocked a kick against Lehigh.
