With Friday's 28-3 win over Trenton Edgewood, Head Coach Ryan Wiggins captured his 100th career victory! Coach Wiggins, a 1997 alumnus of St. Francis DeSales, is in his 11th season and was also an assistant coach at DeSales from 1997-2005. He served as the Head Coach of Akron St. Vincent St. Mary in 2006, where he went 4-6.

The Stallions used a 28-point second half to rally past Edgewood (5-2) to improve to 5-2 overall in a 28-3 victory. It was the 100th career coaching win for Head Coach Ryan Wiggins. Joey Velazquez (23, 3) had two rushing scores in his third multi-touchdown game of the season. Brian Asamoah (30) and Carter Hilleary (44 yard touchdown pass from Cole Silvestri) added touchdowns for the Stallions.
Anthony Sciarroni recorded an interception for Purple and White.

James Prater, a starting defensive end for the 20th ranked Ashland Eagles beat, at the time, the nation’s second ranked team Ferris State 20-3 last Saturday (9/23). In that game, James led the Eagles with a team-high 7 tackles, with two for a loss, and 3 pass breakups. He was recognized as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. For the season, the 6-foot, 253 pounder has made 15 tackles and leads the Purple with 4.5 tackles for a loss. Last Saturday was the 19th career game played for the former Stallion, who appeared in 11 games last year and registered 22 tackles.

The Stallion Defense was dominant in a 31-0 win over St. Charles. DeSales out-gained the Cardinals 397-70 as the Purple and White posted their second shutout of the season and the 18th all-time against St. Charles.
Brian Asamoah (113 rushing) and Joey Velazquez (125 all-purpose) combined for 238 yards of offense and three touchdowns in the 42nd win against the Cardinals (in 46 games). Quarterback Cole Silvestri threw for a touchdown and rushed for another score as the Stallions improved to 4-2 overall, 1-0 in Central Catholic League play.
DeSales held St. Charles (0-6, 0-1) to three 1st downs and 0 yards passing for the second straight year.

Warren Ball '12 - Football Alum of the Week
Week 4 Recap
Last week, from Ashland University, it was Ryan Corkrean. This week, from the University of Akron, it’s Warren Ball. Ball, a redshirt senior running back rushed for 146 yards and 3 touchdowns on 20 carries in a 52-3 win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday (9/9). For the season, the 6-foot-1, 225 pounder leads the Zips with 193 rushing yards and became the first Zips player to record three scores in a game since 2005. Last year, the former Stallion started two games before suffering a season-ending injury and ended up receiving a medical hardship from the NCAA for a sixth season. While at DeSales, the former Stallion finished his career with over 2,300 yards rushing and 47 touchdowns in 30 appearances for the Purple and White. As as senior, he set a school-record with 29 rushing touchdowns and was recognized - First Team All-Ohio.
Mike Fickell - "Where Are They Now?"
The 4th edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2017 is Mike Fickell '96!
As a First Team All-District defensive player in 1995, Mike helped lead a Stallion Defense that allowed just 33 points in the regular season, which set the record for fewest points allowed. Also a standout on the wrestling mat, Fickell placed third at 189 pounds at the OHSAA DII State Wrestling Meet and went onto become an All-American at the University of Pennsylvania.

The former Stallion who started 39 consecutive games at DeSales, recording 249 total tackles, made his first collegiate appearance in a 26-23 loss at Indiana (PA) University on August 31. Corkrean, a 6-foot-1 210-pound linebacker, made four tackles for the Eagles.

In the 4th meeting between two tradition-rich programs, DeSales used a stellar defensive performance to earn a 28-7 win over Youngstown Cardinal Mooney. The Stallions held the Cardinals to 196 total yards and forced two turnovers to improve to 3-0 overall. Will Mnich and Anthony Sciarroni each had interceptions and the Purple and White, who forced three turnovers on downs.
Brian Asamoah, a recent Oklahoma verbal commit, rushed for a career-high 130 yards and scored two touchdowns including a 66-yard run to put the game out of reach in the 4th quarter.
Joey Velazquez (20) and Cole Silvestri (1) had rushing touchdowns for the Stallions on the 55th anniversary of the program's first varsity game (9/8/62).
Matt Williamson - "Where Are They Now?"
The 3rd edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2017 is Matt Williamson '06!
Matt was a member of the 2005 DIII State Runner-up team and went on to become an All-American at Mount Union, where he won two NCAA National Championships with Purple Raiders.

Last Friday (8/25), the 6-foot-3, 204 pound wide receiver caught three passes for 22 yards in a 54-31 loss to Saskatchewan. The three receptions puts the 5-year CFL veteran over 100 catches in his career. Stafford was signed as a free agent in June, earlier this year, and returns to Edmonton - where he hauled in 47 passes for 732 yards and nine touchdowns on a Grey Cup Championship. For the season, the former Stallion has 12 receptions for 203 yards with a touchdown for the 7-2 Eskimos.

The Stallions used a 21-point second quarter in building a 28-0 halftime lead en route to beating Lancaster 34-14 to improve to 2-0. Brian Asamoah and Joey Velazquez each had two rushing touchdowns as the Stallions won their 21st consecutive regular season game - their most since 2007-2009.
DeSales out-gained the Gales 256-57 after two quarters, led by Cole Silvestri's 62-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Sciarroni. Velazquez recorded his second interception of the season and Marco Susi picked-off his first pass as a Stallion.

The 2nd edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2017 is Josh Kusan '09.
Josh helped lead the Stallions to a Regional Championship in 2008 after rushing for 1,502 yards and collecting 167 tackles.

DeSales 50, Royal Imperial Collegiate 0
The Stallions won their 20th consecutive regular season game after a 50-0 win over Royal Imperial Collegiate (ON) to open up 2017. Joey Velazquez had two rushing touchdowns and recorded an interception in the first-ever meeting with RICC. The Stallion Defense posted their first shutout since 2014 (Centennial, 42-0) and scored two defensive touchdowns - Ty Van Fossen on a returned fumble and on a Zach Dowling-Fitzpatrick 53 yard interception for a score. In total, DeSales forced six turnovers with four interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
The Stallions scored 24 points in the first quarter, including a 25-yard field goal by Hector Gomez, in his first attempt of his career. Carter Hilleary scored his first varsity touchdown on a 20-yard run in the second quarter to make it 37-0. Anthony Cua and Cole Silvestri each had rushing touchdowns and Brian Asamoah rushed for a career-high 101 yards.
Dylan McKinney (fumble recovery), Frank Sciarroni (interception) and Caden Zellner (interception) recorded turnovers for the Purple and White. Will Mnich registered four tackles for loss with three sacks.
