DeSales came in unbeaten at 7-0, 2-0 in CCL play, and made the short trip to Franklin County Stadium to take on Wehrle. The Stallions took care of business that night, shutting out the Wolverines 28-0. Paul Haynes recorded two interceptions and also added touchdown. Jack Elgin threw for two scores as the Stallions won their 22nd straight win. It was also DeSales' seventh shutout during that winning streak, moving them to 8-0 overall.
That game would actually be the final meeting between DeSales and Wehrle. With the exception of just two seasons — 1977 and 1978 — the two schools met every year starting back in 1968. DeSales won all 17 matchups, and the average margin of victory was just under 23 points per game.
