DeSales 49, Covington Catholic (KY) 17 Final

Senior running back Alonzo Booth had 20 carries for a school-record 320 yards and five touchdowns as the Stallions beat Covington Catholic 49-17.  The DeSales defense forced five turnovers, highlighted by Jared Noble's 104-yard interception return for a touchdown.  Brian Asamoah had a 15 yard score and Ryan Corkrean recovered two fumbles.  With the win DeSales improved to 6-0 all time against the Colonels.  

 

Kurt Murphy - "Where Are They Now?"

The 5th edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2016 is Kurt Murphy '96.

Kurt was a three-year letter-winner for the Stallions, earning First Team All-Ohio honors as a senior.  After DeSales, he went onto play for The Ohio State University, where he made 32 career starts.  Find out what Kurt is up to these days...

Sayyid Kanu - Football Alum of the Week

Sayyid Kanu, a redshirt sophomore defensive back, recorded five tackles and had two pass break-ups in a 17-13 loss to VMI last Saturday (9/17/16).  The 5-foot-11, 173 pounder is fifth on the team in tackles after leading the Eagles in week one with 9 stops.  Last year as a redshirt freshmen, the former Stallion appeared in 10 games and registered 36 tackles, 4.5 for a loss.  In 2014, he was redshirted, but was recognized by as a member of the Pioneer Football League Academic Honor Roll.

While at DeSales, Sayyid was named third team All-Ohio as a defensive back in 2012 and 2013 after intercepting a combined 8 passes.   He was a two-time first team All-CCL and first team All-Central District selection.  As a senior, he finished second on the team with 50 tackles.

DeSales 31, Hartley 24 Final

The Stallions, the top ranked team in Division-III, improved to 4-0 after a 31-24 win against Bishop Hartley (2-2).  Alonzo Booth and Brian Asamoah each rushed for over 100 yards and combined for four touchdowns to help lead the Purple and White.  Booth finished with a season-high 163 yards and recorded his fourth straight 100-yard game and seventh as a Stallion.  Asamoah had a career-high 100 yards on 10 carries and two scores.  The Stallion defense recovered two Hartley fumbles, which lead to 10 points.  Dominic DiMaccio had five touchbacks, a 62-yard punt and kicked a 19-yard field goal for DeSales.  

Next up, the Stallions will host Covington Catholic (4-1) on September 23, 2016 at 7PM.  

Chris Thomas - "Where Are They Now?"

The fourth edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2016, is Chris Thomas, the outstanding two-way player for DeSales who helped lead the Stallions to the 2005 Division-III State Runner-up.  

After a great career at Air Force, Chris is now a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and currently resides in Washington D.C.  Here Chris reminisces about one of his most memorable games - a contest he did not even play in:

Football Alum of the Week - Warren Ball

Last Saturday (9/3/16), in his first appearance for the Zips, Warren had 18 rushes for a career-high 110 yards and first collegiate touchdown in 47-24 victory over VMI.  Ball also had a 12-yard reception in his Akron debut as the Zips moved to 1-0 on the young season.  After earning his bachelor’s degree in sports industry from the Ohio State University in the spring of 2016,  he enrolled at Akron later that summer and has one year of eligibility remaining.  

While at Ohio State, the 6-foot-1, 232 pounder, appeared in 33 games, rushing for 180 yards and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2013.  The year the Buckeyes won the National Championship, the former Stallion played in 10 games as a running back and as a special teams member. 

At DeSales, Warren was a three-year letter-winner and as a senior, he was named First Team All-Ohio on a CCL Championship team.  For his career, he played in 30 games for the Purple and White, totaling 2,361 rushing yards with 47 touchdowns.  His 29 touchdowns in 2011 is a school-record for most touchdowns in a single season.

The third edition of the "Where Are They Now?" series in 2016, is Ken Schneider, the starting quarterback and captain of the 1964 team, which captured the program's first Central Catholic League championship.

DeSales 49, Football North 12 Final

Jared Noble opened the game with a 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown as the Stallions scored early and often against Football North (CA).  DeSales also returned two fumbles (Ryan Corkrean - 23, Andre White -31) for scores as part of a 28 point first quarter.  

Alonzo Booth rushed for over 100 yards for the second straight game and also added three touchdowns (33, 3, 46).   

The Stallions improved their record to 2-0 and will face 2-0 Canal Winchester next Friday.

The second edition of the "Where Are They Now?" in 2016 was a four-year letter-winner, who's teams won 38 games, three Central Catholic League championships, had two undefeated regular seasons and a State Runner-up finish in 1996.  See what Scott Smith '97, a former All-Ohio lineman, is up to these days by clicking here.

Alonzo Booth scored twice, including a 69-yard touchdown run, and helped lead the Stallions to a 28-7 win over Lancaster.  The 6-1 245 senior running back finished with 157 yards.  

Cole Silvestri, making his first varsity start finished 8-of-12 passing for 97 yards and connected with Ryan Corkrean from 24 yards for the game's first score.  

Brian Asamoah added a 10-yard touchdown in the first half as the Stallions finished with 372 yards of offense.  

The Stallion first team defense held Lancaster to under 100 yards of offense and did not allow a first down in the second half.  Derrius Mullins led the way with five tackles for a loss and Brandon Derrow had a fumble recovery for the Purple and White.

The first edition of the "Where Are They Now?" in 2016 is the quarterback of the program's first back-to-back CCL Championship, Eric Holleman.  Eric helped lead the Stallions to the 1978 and 1979 league titles.

Chi Chi Ariguzo '10 signs with the Detroit Lions

On Friday, former Stallion Football player Chi Chi Ariguzo '10 was signed by the Detroit Lions. Last year, Ariguzo spent the 2015 season on Reserve/Injured with the San Diego Chargers.  He entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Chargers last season out of Northwestern, where he made 39 career starts and finished 10th all-time in Northwestern History with 333 tackles.  

Senior Long Snapper Chris Stoll commits to Penn State as a preferred walk-on.

St. Francis DeSales senior Chris Stoll verbally committed to Penn State University as preferred walk-on long snapper.   Last year, Stoll primarily served as the team's long snapper, but also started two games at quarterback, including a Division-III Regional Quarterfinal game against Chillicothe.   This summer, the 6-3, 220 pounder was named a Ray Guy Prokicker.com Top Prospect Award winner.
