DeSales backup signal caller Ralph Reeb, who replaced starting quarterback Eric Holleman, found sophomore Tom White on 4th-and-27 for a 32-yard touchdown with 28 seconds remaining in the first half.  Watterson regained the lead and back came Holleman, who had to replace Reeb due to an injury, and Holleman did not disappoint.  Holleman led the Stallions on a game-winning drive and scored the go-ahead touchdown.  DeSales held Watterson to 133 yards of offense.

10/27/1978  -  DeSales 10, Watterson 7

For the second week in a row, DeSales kicker Roy Burrell had a game-winning field goal to lift the Stallions in their quest for a CCL championship.  One week before, Burrell kicked a 20-yarder as time expired in the Stallions defeat of Bishop Ready 17-14.  Against Watterson, Burrell hit a 30-yard field goal with 1:49 remaining and the Stallions clinched at least a share of the CCL championship.  DeSales quarterback Eric Holleman threw for 68 yards with a touchdown and ran for 53 yards.  Frank Borghese was the game’s leading rusher with 68 yards.
