Eric Holleman led the Stallions with three rushing touchdowns (3, 4, 24) as DeSales shutout the Cardinals for the third straight season. Frank Borghese returned a punt 47 yards for a score and Bob Esselstien and Phil Callaghan each had rushing touchdowns for the Stallions.

DeSales intercepted eight Cardinal passes as the Stallions capped off an undefeated season with a dominant defensive performance against St. Charles. The Purple and White allowed just 10 rushing yards in posting their sixth shutout of the 1978 season and finished 10-0. John Lawson and Bob Esselstein each scored twice for the Stallions.

11/5/1977  -  DeSales 28, St. Charles 0

DeSales running back Greg Diehl rushed for three touchdowns in a 28-0 win against the Cardinals and became the second Stallion to surpass 1,000 yards rushing for a season. DeSales scored in each quarter and helped first-year Head Coach Tony Pusateri clinch a winning season. Diehl joined Brian Hairston in the 1,000-yard rushing club. Hairston rushed for 1,000 yards in 1973 and 1974.

St. Charles returned the opening kick for a touchdown of the non-league matchup, but the Stallions rallied, thanks to touchdowns by Brian Hairston and Mike Kristoff.  Kristoff also converted on a two-point attempt.  St. Charles was not a member of the Central Catholic League in 1974.
